Stump Grinding
Fast, clean and efficient stump removal — leaving your garden safe and ready for whatever comes next.
What Is Stump Grinding?
Stump grinding is the process of using a powerful rotating cutting wheel to mechanically break down a tree stump and its surface roots into small wood chip fragments. Unlike full stump extraction — which involves digging out the entire root system — stump grinding is faster, less disruptive and requires no heavy excavation.
The grinder works down to a depth of around 150–300mm below ground level, well below what's needed for replanting. The resulting wood chip can be mixed back into the soil or removed from site entirely.
Stump grinding can be carried out straight after tree removal or as a standalone service on existing stumps. We work in gardens of all sizes and our compact machines can access tight, restricted spaces.

Why Remove the Stump?
Leaving a stump in place creates more problems than most people realise. Here's why it's worth having it removed.
Eliminates Trip Hazards
Exposed stumps are a safety risk for children, adults and garden machinery. Grinding removes the stump below ground level, making the area safe.
Prevents Regrowth
Many tree species will send up new shoots from a cut stump. Grinding destroys the root crown, preventing unwanted regrowth that can damage paths, drains and foundations.
Reclaim Garden Space
Once the stump is ground down and the site filled, you can plant new vegetation, lay turf or pave over the area — giving you back usable space.
Our Process
We keep it simple. From start to finish, here's what to expect on the day.
Assess
We inspect the stump, surrounding ground conditions and any access constraints before starting work.
Grind
Our stump grinder works systematically across the stump, reducing it to wood chip below ground level.
Clear
All wood chip debris is cleared from the site or can be left as mulch — your preference.
Fill
The void is back-filled with soil or the wood chip material, leaving a level surface ready for replanting or laying.
Areas We Cover
